| | 2. BARRINGTON SWIM CLUB WINTER CLASSIC - 01/23/2012 | This weekend SCST will be swimming at the 18th Annual Winter Classic; January 27, 28 & 29, 2012. The meet is being held at Barrington High School (616 West Main Street, Barrington, IL 60010).
This meet is a full meet, with almost a 100 swimmers. There are have been modifications to the Schedule to insure the safety of athletes and to provide a proper warm-up.

Important Meet Information
# Positive Check-In will be given to the Coaching Staff at the beginning of each session. Swimmers need to Check-In with the SCST Coaches, upon arrival.
#SCST is being asked to supply 2 timers for the following sessions; Saturday PM (Lane 9) and Sunday PM (Lane 9). Parents please be prepared to volunteer to time.
#Entry Limit; 1 event on Friday, 3 events on Saturday and 3 events on Sunday.
#1650 Swimmers need to provide a timer and counter.

| | 3. SCST 12 and UNDER TIME TRIAL - FEB 4, 2012 - 01/23/2012 | Saturday, February 4th, 2012 the St. Charles Swim Team will be hosting a 12 & Under Time Trial for SCST Swimmers ONLY.
The Time will be at St. Charles North High School. Warm-Ups will begin at 9:30 and the Time Trial will begin at 10:00am.
NO ENTRY FEE!
To compete swimmers can not have an ISI Regional Time Standard in an event for their age group. Swimmers meeting this qualification will receive an invite to the Time Trial. If your swimmer does not receive an invitation and you think your swimmer qualifies please contact your swimmers coach.
Entries Open today and close Thursday, Feb. 2nd, 2012.
Maximum number of entries per swimmer will be 3 events.

| | 4. 6TH ANNUAL CHICAGOLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS - 01/23/2012 | SCST Families
Thank you for your support! The 2012 SCST/TYR Chicagoland Championships is our last hosted competition of the season that you need to volunteer. We want to finish the Short Course Season Strong! SCST has 25 available volunteer positions open for the meet. We need your help in Awards, Timers and Take-down. If you did not have the chance to fulfill your required sessions NOW is the TIME! SCST can not run a quality meet without your help.

LANCE ARMSTRONG SWIMS 500 FREE AT FIRST MEET IN 25 YEARS - 01/23/2012 | Last weekend at the Jamail Swim Center at the University of Texas played host to one of the all time sports legends in Michael Phelps. This weekend, it played host to one of the few men walking the earth who can challenge his ubiquitous sporting fame; Lance Armstrong.
Armstrong made his official pool-swimming debut at the Longhorn Aquatics New Year’s Classic with a 5:08.11 to place 21st in the 15 & Over division of the 500 Free against predominantly high school aged competitors. The race was split fairly well; 57.5, 1:01.4, 1:02.5, 1:03.5, 1:03.3.
He had good even pacing that is similar to one might see in a triathlon-where ther’s not usually a finishing kick to the swim portion. In terms of pool swimming, would’ve liked to have seen a bit-more of a finishing kick but that’s a bit nit-picky.
The 40 year old Armstrong has been a very good triathlete since retiring from professional cycling, and has also recently become active in Masters Swimming (though this is his first meet as an adult. As a high school swimmer, Armstrong claims to have gone a 4:51. in the 500 free.
For those curious the 500 free record for the 40-44 age group is a 4:39 ste by Alex Kostich in 2010.

6 NEW RECORDS SET AT FAST MLK INVITE - 01/17/2012
SCST set 6 NEW Team Records over the weekend -
ALEK FILIPOVIC set a new standard for the 8 & Under Boys 50 Back with a time of 38.55 breaking the old record held by Mitchell Milosch with a time 39.42 set in 2008.
LINDA LICARI set a new record in the 9-10 Girls 200 Free with a time of 2:12.79 breaking the old record she set earlier this season.
KRISTEN CZARNECKI set two new records for the 11-12 Girls. KRISTEN set a new record in the 50 Fly with a time of 27.65 breaking the old record set by Abby Glaser in 2000 with a time of 27.83 and then KRISTEN broke another of Abby’s records the 100 Fly with a time of 1:01.10 breaking the old record of 1:02.30 set in 2000.
AUDREY GUYETT broke two of her own records she set earlier this season the 11-12 Girls 1000 and 1650 Free. In the 1000 Free AUDREY swam a 10:39.63 and in the 1650 Free she swam a 17:41.56. All these swims are outstanding, congratulations to everyone!
